Dixon Teen Center, Dixon, CA

On Saturday, December 11, 2010, the old Dixon High School was transformed by 112 volunteers into the Dixon Teen Center, a clean, fun and safe haven for Dixon’s youth.

Recology Volunteers - Dixon Teen Center As a WASTE ZERO event, every aspect of this project focused on reusable, renewable and sustainable material.

From the use of reusable drop cloths, paint brushes, rollers, and scrapers to “low or no” VOC cleaning material and paint, the Dixon Teen Center's multi-purpose and home economic rooms were cleaned, prepped and painted.  Recovered wood was also used to create four courtyard gates and benches, and the garden was re-landscaped using our compost, crushed granite and drought-tolerant plants.

Dixon youth now have a new facility where they can study and socialize.
